A Passion for Perfection

Just toured the Degas Exhibition (A Passion for Perfection) with Dr. Timothy Standring, the Gates Foundation Curator of Painting and Sculpture at the Denver Art Museum. What an enlightening experience to walk the galleries with the person who devoted the last few years of his curatorial life, gathering works for this exhibit. His intellectual fingerprint is evident throughout each room as he tells the visual story of Degas – his thought process, his temperament, his output. And for me, as a gallerist, a dealer, and an appraiser of fine art, this exhibit adds greater depth to my understanding of

Degas, my second such encounter with Degas within one month – the first being with the sculpture modèles of Degas at the Norton Simon Museum, Pasadena, CA .

Today, artist, Alex Guofeng Cao, pays homage to Degas in his contemporary work Horst vs Degas.
