IWO JIMA WWII Photograph Gifted to the National World War II Museum

Collector Gifts Iconic WWII Photograph to the National World War II Museum

Printed from the original 1945 negative and signed by the photographer, Joe Rosenthal, Flag Raising on Mount Suribachi, Iwo Jima [Modern limited edition, gelatin silver print] is now part of the permanent collection of one of New Orleans’ most-visited museums. The collector says that he was honored to first place this photograph in his personal collection, but then he felt the need to share history with the world…as well as to honor his dad, who was a WWII Marine. This photograph, originally acquired from GALLERY M, based in Denver, Colorado, is to be part of a special permanent exhibition at the entrance of the Museum, which will highlight events of WWII.

Tom Czekanski, Senior Curator, WWII Museum, holds the gifted photograph. He is flanked by the donors, Caroline and Ronald Leban. November, 2017.
